In the month of December our special collection is split half and half between UUCLB’s Minister’s Emergency Fund, which is available for the minister to use to help church members in temporary need, and an outside organization of the minister’s choosing. This year, you are invited to join in supporting “The Village” center for mental health and homeless services operated by Mental Health America here in Long Beach at 456 Elm Street. The Village offers numerous services for the homeless mentally ill including: showers, clothing, job training, financial counseling, welfare assistance, a drop-in center, case management and psychiatric case management, and mental health related support groups.
UUCLB’s Pastoral Care Team, church staff and the minister are occasionally called upon to assist homeless and mentally ill persons when they present at the church. It’s heartbreaking to know their need is so much greater than the bag of food, bottle of water, and few words of comfort we can provide. We have relied on the Village as a resource in these instances and are grateful for the service they provide.
Please join in giving generously to our UUCLB Holiday Special Collection. This offering will be taken during our Christmas Eve worship at both the 5pm and 7pm services. If you are not able to attend but would like to give, please mail your donation to the church. Please write “Holiday Special Collection” on the memo line. Or give through the Tithe.ly app on your phone or through the “give” button on the church website – choose “special collection” from the drop-down menu. Many thanks for your generosity.
