Backpack Project— Neighborhood Donations Pick-UP

August 29th, 10:00 am

Our in-person, annual Backpack Project is well underway! Sunday we’ll be venturing back out into our local neighborhood to pick up donation bags filled with brand-new backpacks and school supplies. Children and youth K-12th grade meet at the picnic tables under the oak trees by 10am. Parents/guardians, if you did not fill out a permission slip last Sunday, please fill one out for Aug 29th. Preschoolers are welcome to walk with us if accompanied by a parent or guardian.
This is the Faith in Action Backpack Project for homeless youth within Long Beach Unified School District. We’re primarily focusing on brand-new backpacks, they may be empty, or filled as your heart desires.  These backpacks may also serve as our houseless youth’s suitcases, and perhaps also as their bookshelf.
To keep the youth and children and adults safe, all people are required to wear a mask.
Shortly after I introduce to the congregation, Coleen Maldonado, co-founder of UUCLB’s Backpack Project 20 years ago, we’ll divide up and head out into the neighborhood.
