We have a new Interim Band Director

Our hiring committee is delighted to announce that Thomas Parmeter Dyer will be our Interim Band Director and Instrumentalist. He’ll be working with the Wylder Spirits and providing music for our 9:00am service. The hiring team was made up of Wylder members Alicia Davis, Mimi Gephart-Seeley, and Dayla McDonald.

Tom studied piano performance and political science at CSULB, graduating cum laude. While at CSULB, he was awarded Most Outstanding Freshman Music Major and the Outstanding University and Community Service Award. (He’ll fit right in at UUCLB!)

Since graduation, Tom has amassed an impressive resume. He’s an experienced church band director, choir director, conductor and accompanist. He is founder and music director of the folk/Celtic band Woven Image. He is a music performer, arranger, and composer in church music, jazz, and other contexts. He also teaches music in the Long Beach Unified School District.

Give a big thank you to Chris Law and David James for performing all the first service music while the committee was searching for Tom. And be sure to give a warm UU welcome to Tom when you see him at the piano.
