With the lessening of the pandemic, the number of residents at the Project Achieve shelter is once again increasing, albeit slowly. This means that the group of volunteers at our church who assist in preparing delivering, serving and sharing meals with those residents several times a year will become active once again.

This Is How the Program Operates for Our Church: Our congregation is committed to bringing dinner to Project Achieve residents on all 5th Mondays, which usually happen four times a year.

Either Sandy Kroll or else Elizabeth Louros and Jim Crook plan the menu, and then send out a group email to those people who are on the list of volunteers.

According to their availability and their interests, individuals then commit to contributing one of the menu items, which they deliver on that date to the church or directly to the shelter.

Some also travel to Project Achieve, located just this side of the Los Angeles River, to help set up, serve, and share dinner with the residents.

Having the opportunity to meet and chat with the residents is considered a bonus, Menus vary to some degree, except that the dishes always add up to a healthy, hearty meal, Occasionally, a specific recipe accompanies a menu item, but more frequently the “chef” is asked to bring something generic, such as a hot vegetable dish, or a green salad, or maybe a dessert, People who don’t enjoy cooking can contribute breads or soft drinks, Seldom does anyone prepare a dish for more than 20 people

This Is How You Can Get Involved: If you would like to have your name added to the list of volunteers, contact Sandy Kroll or watch for a sign-up list on Sunday mornings at the Social Justice table.

We will be sending emails to all volunteers in anticipation of bringing dinners on the following dates: October 31, January 30, May 29, and July 31.
