Date(s) - Sunday, September 24, 2017
On Sunday, September 24th, at 4 p.m., our congregation will gather in one of the most special ceremonies in the life of our church; we will ordain Katy Kroll Swanson to the Unitarian Universalist ministry. Katy, who grew up here, has been supported by our Committee on Ministry and the Board of Trustees, and the congregation voted for the ordination at the May congregational meeting. Now we will come together in the worship service to lift our voices to ordain.
Katy has completed all the requirements for ordination; she has completed her studies leading to the M.Div. degree at Starr King School for the Ministry; she has completed an internship; she has completed a chaplaincy educational component; and she has been examined and approved by the Ministerial Fellowship Committee of the Unitarian Universalist Association. She is now serving as chaplain at Sharp HealthCare in San Diego.
And yet, after all this preparation, years and years of preparation, the final step remains, and that is our privilege, to ordain her.
Clergy guests from other areas, who have been important in Katy’s ministerial formation, will be part of the service, as will Rev. Mitra, who has encouraged Katy throughout the process. The sermon will be preached by the Rev. Denis Letourneau Paul, who is beloved by this congregation since his time as our intern minister, and now serves East Shore Unitarian Universalist Church in Kirtland, Ohio. All members and friends of the congregation are invited to attend. A reception will follow. If you plan to attend, please RSVP to email@example.com, so we will have a good count for planning. Members of the ordination committee include Marlene Brown, Phyllis Daniel, David James, Lisa Moore and Barry Rubin. Contact any of them if you would like to help in some way.
