“The Spirit of the Mapuche Rises”
Graciela Huinao, Margaret Towner and Rev. Marguerite D. Lovett |
Sun, May 18 |
Graciela Huinao, Mapuche Indigenous poet, from the South of Chile will share with us the rich Mapuche Tribe heritage of Chile. Her beautifully lyrical writing captures the personal history and culture of her ancestors. She is a conduit through which her ancestors speak, preserving the history of a people that has lived with immense wisdom and love while suffering profound injustices. Teachers accused her of plagiarism because they did not believe that a Mapuche could write something as simple as a story. Graciela has become the first female poet of the Mapuche-Williche people that dared to be published in Chile and abroad.

“The Stirrings of Compassion”
Service Leader: Cynthia Case, Worship Committee |
Sun, May 25 |
The second principle of Unitarian-Universalism challenges us to show compassion in our human relations. But should our circle of compassion embrace those who have caused us pain and suffering? Who is worthy of our compassion—and our forgiveness?
