Arts

UUCLB has for many years exhibited the work of local artists in Wylder Hall. Church members volunteer to manage these art shows; a reception, open to the public, is held to inaugurate a new show.

A permanent collection was inaugurated in 2009;  it is under the supervision of the Music and Arts Committee.

The Earl Birch Smith "Art in the Church" award is given annually to someone who has made a significant artistic contribution to the life of the congregation. The 2009 award winner was Alayne Armstrong, who was one of the original founders of the Mozart Festival, 37 years ago, and has often provided music for services as well as concerts and other musical events.  Alayne is a cellist and is a member of the Music and Arts Committee.

We have a diverse group of six local LGBT artists including Lesbian, Gay, Transgendered (FTM and MTF) and bi-sexual. The medium and styles range greatly and together provide a vibrant representation of our community.

The Call for Artist was widely distributed throughout the local arts community.  We asked for art that depicts the LGBT Community and its members as it relates to pride, history, the future, community diversity and relationships, social and political issues, equality, family, love, unity, social justice, or the artist’s interpretation of the topic.

This Exhibit is a reflection of the Unitarian Universalist Second Core Principle which states; We affirm and promote justice, equity and compassion in human relations.
